We have been on a bit of a hiatus Maniax, but the love, and desire for music, and what it is has never stopped and never will.

The night was full of pleasant surprises, ranging from seeing friends that havent been seen in a while, to hip guys and sexy girls, to a "furry" cat and a guy with a mouth mask walking around with the cat. We find music just as surprising, starting with the drive and swing of Cinemechanica's alt-rock, to the driving fast Japenese headliners called Melt-Banana who we realize later were the "furry" cat and her guy. And although we were mesmerized by the headliners, our spotlight shone that night on the delight of AkuYou's experimental/noise performance.

Band of Skulls talk to Music Maniax about Jet Lag, Sound Checks, and the BBC.
The plan was simple. We would check out Band of Skull’s at 4:30pm, squeeze in 30 minutes of another act, and then dash over to the media station ready for Band of Skull’s 6pm press conference. Yep, that’s what we thought would go down, but then something unexpected happened. We were the press conference. So instead of being one small voice in a sea of 99Xers and Creative Loafers, we had the pleasure of joining Band of Skulls on the plush sofa and easy chair and conversing about the amazing day. Skulls and Maniax – up close and personal.

Not too long ago, I heard a quote attributed to Carl Sagan about how as humans, we seem to have this need to attach a significance to everything that happens in our lives. The wonderful thing about Americana is that musicians take these insignificant moments of our lives, weave them together, and before long you have the melody of a lifetime. Described as “modern retro-billy,” The Serenaders exemplify Americana. They shine a light on these insignificant moments, and reveal glimpses of the gears that make our world go around.

On October 6, 2011, we journied to Georgia Theatere in Athens Georgia to catch the experience in Ghostland Observatory. It was a wonderful night with a building anxious, anticipation of what was in store. A new venue, a new hope, and a most powerful new thrill were all delivered in ways, never perceived, in anyones raw imagination. Yet, we are the ones who entered Ghostland Observatory.

Have you ever had that euphoric feeling after a first date…the one where you giddily ponder if she or he might be the one? You imagine dropping the “l” bomb but hesitate because you know it’s just too soon. Well I’m not going to hesitate. I saw Gringo Star for the first time on Friday at the Earl and I LOVE them.
